Cynics Anonymous

I go to as many gigs as is financially possible and thought it would be sensible to keep a journal of gigs I go to, cds I buy, new and old bands I come across and anything else I fancy going on about.

BeerJacket gigs @ 13th Note Cafe and The Universal

Two gigs by BeerJacket

6 July - Due to bad planning and holiday, I forgot to add a short note concerning the 2nd official BeerJacket show! BeerJacket is the cover name of the new project by Peter Kelly (see previous review). This time the set was an acoustic night at the 13th Note Cafe in Glasgow. Another strong set and this time a cover of U2s "With or Without You" which went down a storm with the crowd, although personally I can do without U2 but this version is completely differnt than Bono et al.

10 August - Tonight saw the 3rd BeerJacket show, this time a free gig in The Universal, which is a small pub just off Sauchiehall Street in Glasgow. An intimate gig and the first for BerrJacket in a pub rather than concentional gig setting. This gave Peter more to think about, more intimacy, poorer sound, intimacy with the audience, a heckler and more importantly a pub atmosphere where punters are there first and foremost to drink and not listen to someone sing songs they haven't heard on radio 1!

After some sound problems the gig started very strongly and the crowd seemed to warm to the songs, this was untill one chap decided it would be funny to shout a few unwelcome comments, while sitting with his back turned to the stage - very daring. Well this seemed to throw Peter somewhat and rather than ignore the moron he tried to get the cown to repeat his idiotic comments which only caused more embarasment. However, the comments were soon forgotten with the next song being belted out more vigarously than before and it was game, set and match BeerJacket in straight sets.

Excellent.
